Let’s Revise
- Ten thousands years ago people counted by making marks on the wall of caves and on the barks of trees.
- After some time people started making groups of 5,10, 15, 20 and so on.
- Thousands years ago ancient Indian started writing number by using only ten symbols: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
- 0 is also a number like 1, 2, 3…………..
- 0 means nothing is left or no amount.
- It is the number 0 that really made this system of writing numerals work.
- If 0 is written after a digit it add value to it. For e.g.; 10, 20, 30 …………………
- Similarly if 0 is written two times after the digit 1, we get 100.
- 100 is a number equal to 10 times 10.
- 100 is also termed as Century.
