Summary In English
This is the story of a monkey who wants to become strong. One wise woman came to know about this. She gave one magic stick to the monkey to fulfil all his wishes. First of all he wants to become a giraffe. Then he wants to become an elephant and at last he wants to become a zebra.

All his wishes are granted. At last when he comes along the river, he finds himself looking so scary. He felt so bad after watching his face. He told his mother that he was happy being himself. Then he wishes to become monkey again. His wish was granted and he became monkey again. He threw away his magic stick.

यह कहानी एक ऐसे बंदर की है, जो शक्तिशाली बनना चाहता है। एक बुद्धिमती स्त्री को इस बात का पता चला। उसने बंदर को उसकी सारी इच्छाएँ पूरी करने वाली जादू की एक छड़ी दी। सबसे पहले बंदर एक जिराफ बनना चाहता था। उसके बाद उसकी इच्छा हाथी बनने की थी। अंत में वह एक जेबरा बनना चाहता था।

उसकी समस्त इच्छाएँ पूरी हो गईं। अंत में जब वह नदी के पास आया, तो उसे अपना ही चेहरा बड़ा डरावना लगा। अपने चेहरे को देखने के बाद, उसे बड़ा ही बुरा लगा। उसने अपनी माँ से कहा कि वह बंदर के रूप में ही खुश था। उसने पुनः बंदर बनने की इच्छा प्रकट की। उसकी इच्छा पूरी हुई तथा वह पुनः बंदर बन गया। उसने अपनी जादू की छड़ी को फेंक दिया।

Hindi Translation Of The Poem
1. “I want to be big,” says
Little Monkey. “I want
to be strong.”
A wise woman hears
him. “Take this magic wand,”
she says, “and all your wishes can come true.”

“मैं बड़ा बनना चाहता हूँ,” छोटे बंदर ने कहा,
“मैं शक्तिशाली बनना चाहता हूँ।”
एक बुद्धिमती स्त्री उसकी बातों को सुन लेती हैं।
“जादू की इस छड़ी को ले लो,” उसने कहा, ” और
तुम्हारी सभी इच्छाएँ पूरी हो सकती हैं।”

Word-Meanings : Strong ( स्ट्रांग )-powerful, ताकतवर Wise ( वाइज़ )-Learned, बुद्धिमती। Magic wand (मैजिक वांड) -magic stick, जादू की छड़ी। Wish (विश) -want, इच्छा।

2. A giraffe comes by. He stretches his
long neck. He eats the sweet leaves
at the top of the trees.
“I want a long neck,” says Little
Monkey. “POP!” His neck grows long, just like the
giraffe’s.

एक जिराफ़ पास आता है। वह अपनी लंबी गर्दन को
खींचकर बढ़ाता है। वह पेड़ के ऊपर के मीठे पत्तों को
खा जाता है।
मुझे एक लंबी गर्दन चाहिए,” छोटे बंकर ने कहा।
“पॉप!” की आवाज़ के साथ उसकी गर्दन लंबी हो जाती
है, बिल्कुल ही जिराफ़ की तरह।

Word-Meanings : Stretches ( स्ट्रेचेज़ ) -to pull something to make it longer, विस्तार करना, खींचकर बड़ा बनाना। Neck ( नेक ) -an upper part of the human body गर्दन।

3. Little Monkey is happy.
An elephant comes down to the river.

छोटा बंदर खुश हो जाता है।
कि एक हाथी नदी के पास आता है।

Word-Meanings : Happy ( हैप्पी ) -in a joyful mood, खुश।

4. He fills his trunk with water.
He blows it all over himself. “I want
to do that, too!” says Little Monkey.
BANG!” Just like that, he grows a trunk.

वह अपनी सँड़ को पानी से भरता है। वह उसे अपने ऊपर
डालता है। “मैं भी यह करना चाहता हूँ।” छोटा
बंदर कहता है। “बैंग!” उसी प्रकार से उसकी भी एक
सँड़ उग आती है।

Word-Meanings : Trunk (ट्रंक)-long nose of an elephant, सूँड़ Blow ( ब्लो )-to throw, फेंकना।

5. He is very happy. “This is fun!”
he says.
Next, Little Monkey sees a zebra.
“I want stripes like those,” he says.
“WHIZZ!”
Little Monkey has strines all over his
body, just like the zebra.

वह बहुत खुश हो जाता है। यह एक खेल है।” वह
कहता है इसके बाद छोटे बंदर ने एक जेबरा देखा। “मुझे
उसकी तरह धारियाँ चाहिए।” उसने कहा! “व्हिज़” की
ध्वनि के साथ ही, छोटे बंदर के पूरे शरीर पर धारियाँ
बन जाती हैं, बिल्कुल जेबरे की तरह।

Word-Meanings : Fun ( फ़न ) -a pleasant activity,मनोरंजन। Stripes ( स्ट्रिप्स ) -long narrow lines, धारियाँ।

6. He is very, very happy.
He goes to the river to try out his
new trunk.
He looks down. He sees himself in the water.
“Mother!” he cries. “Help! Amonster!”
“That’s not a monster,” says his
mother. “That’s you.”

वह अत्यंत ही खुश हो जाता है। वह अपनी नई सैंड
के इस्तेमाल के लिए नदी के पास जाता है। वह नीचे
देखता है। वह अपने आप को पानी में देखता है। “माँ!”
वह चिल्लाता है। “एक विशाल प्राणी (राक्षस) से मुझे
बचाओ।”
“यह कोई विशाल प्राणी (राक्षस) नहीं है,” माँ ने उत्तर
दिया। “यह तुम हो।”

Word-Meanings : Monster (मॉनस्टर) -a large scary creature, एक डरावना प्राणी (राक्षस)

7.  “You want a giraffe’s neck, an
elephant’s trunk and stripes like a
zebra. Don’t you remember?”
Little Monkey cries and cries. “I look AWFUL!” he says.
I want to be myself again.”

“तुम जिराफ़ जैसी गर्दन, हाथी जैसी सँड तथा जेबरा
जैसी धारियाँ चाहते हो। क्या तुम्हें याद नहीं है।”
छोटा बंदर रोने लगता है।
“मैं बहुत डरावना दिखाई दे रहा हूँ।” वह कहता है।
मैं पुन: बंदर बनना चाहता हूँ।”

8.  There is a P0P, a BANG and a
WHIZZ.
Little Monkey is himself again. He
jumps for joy. He throws the magic wand into the
river. He never wants to be anyone else again.

एक पॉप, बैंग तथा व्हिज की आवाज़ होती है। छोटा बंदर
पुन: पहले की तरह बन जाता है। वह खुशी से उछलने
लगता है। वह जादू की छड़ी को नदी में फेंक देता है।
अब वह फिर से कोई दूसरी चीज़ बनना नहीं चाहता।
