Given chapter is based on ‘Yoga’, its origin and approach to health and well-being. According to the sage Patanjali Yoga is a means to make the mind quiet and free from all distractions. It symbolizes the unity of body and mind. Yoga has many benefits. It helps to reduce pain, stress and anxiety. Yoga involves various breathing techniques to calm the mind and can aid in weight loss by burning calories, and maintaining health. It also boosts the immune system. WHO launched an App WHO mYoga. It is an easy-to-use and free tool for people across the world to encourage them to practice yoga.

Yoga – A Way of Life Summary in English

Yoga is a holistic practice that involves the physical, mental, and spiritual self. It originated in ancient India and has since spread worldwide. Maharishi Patanjali, “The Father of Yoga” compiled and refined various aspects of Yoga systematically in his book “Yoga Sutras”. The word “Yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj meaning ‘to join’ ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’. It focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science for healthy living. Yoga was aimed at instilling peace of mind and body with concentration, meditation, postures, and breathing.

Regular practice of yoga can improve physical fitness, flexibility, and posture. It also promotes mental well-being, reduces stress, and enhances overall quality of life. It helps us meditate and relax. It also, helps us to keep control of our bodies as well as minds. It is a great channel for releasing our stress and anxiety.

It combines physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation or relaxation. Breathing (pranayama) practiced can improve lung capacity, and efficiency of breathing, and regular yoga practice can increase overall energy levels and reduce feelings of fatigue. Many yoga poses require holding positions that build muscular strength, particularly in the core, arms, and legs. Certain styles of yoga can contribute to weight loss by burning calories and increasing metabolism. Yoga poses help improve blood circulation throughout the body, which can have benefits for cardiovascular health and overall well-being.

The first International Yoga Day was celebrated successfully on 21 June 2015. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on 20th June 2021, launched an App called WHO mYoga. mYoga is an app for the general public to use regularly, providing Yoga learning and practice sessions of varying durations. The app contains a collection of videos and audio files to teach and support yoga practice.

योग एक समग्र अभ्यास है जिसमें शारीरिक, मानसिक और आध्यात्मिक रूप शामिल है। यह एक ऐसी प्रथा है जिसकी उत्पत्ति प्राचीन भारत में हुई थी और तब से यह दुनिया भर में फैल गई है। महर्षि पतंजलि, जिन्हें “योग का जनक’ कहा जाता है, अपने ‘योग सूत्र’ में योग के विभिन्न पहलुओं को व्यवस्थित रूप से संकलित और परिष्कृत किया है। ‘योग’ शब्द संस्कृत शब्द ‘युज’ से लिया गया है जिसका अर्थ है ‘जुड़ना’ या ‘एकजुट होना’। यह मन और शरीर के बीच सामंजस्य लाने पर केंद्रित है। यह स्वस्थ जीवन के लिए एक कला और विज्ञान है। योग का उद्देश्य एकाग्रता, ध्यान, मुद्राओं और श्वास के साथ मन और शरीर की शांति पैदा करना था।

योग के नियमित अभ्यास से शारीरिक स्वास्थ्य, लचीलापन और मुद्रा में सुधार हो सकता है। यह मानसिक कल्याण को भी बढ़ावा देता है, तनाव को कम करता है और जीवन की समग्र गुणवत्ता को बढ़ाता है। यह हमें ध्यान करने और आराम करने में सहायता करता है। इसके अलावा, योग हमें अपने शरीर के साथ-साथ मन पर भी नियंत्रण रखने में सहायता करता है। यह हमारे तनाव और चिंता को दूर करने का एक अच्छा माध्यम है।

यह शारीरिक मुद्राओं (आसन) श्वास तकनीकों (प्राणायाम) और ध्यान या विश्राम को जोड़ती है। सांस लेने (प्राणायाम) का अभ्यास फेफड़ों की क्षमता, सांस लेने की दक्षता और समग्र श्वसन कार्य में सुधार कर सकता है। नियमित योग अभ्यास समग्र ऊर्जा के स्तर को बढ़ा सकता है और थकान की भावनाओं को कम कर सकता है। कई योग मुद्राओं के लिए ऐसी स्थिति धारण करने की आवश्यकता होती है जो मांसपेशियों की ताकत का निर्माण करती है, विशेष रूप से कोर, बाहों और पैरों में। योग की कुछ शैलियाँ, कैलोरी जलाकर और चयापचय को बढ़ाकर वजन घटाने में योगदान कर सकती हैं। योग आसन पूरे शरीर में रक्त परिसंचरण में सुधार करने में सहायता करते हैं, जिससे हृदय स्वास्थ्य और समग्र कल्याण के लिए लाभ हो सकते हैं।

पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस 21 जून 2015 को सफलतापूर्वक मनाया गया था। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) ने 20 जून 2021 को डब्ल्यूएचओ एमयोग नामक एक ऐप लॉन्च किया। mYoga आम जनता के लिए नियमित रूप से उपयोग करने के लिए एक ऐप है, जो अलग-अलग अवधि के योग सीखने और अभ्यास सत्र प्रदान करता है। ऐप में योग अभ्यास सिखाने और समर्थन करने के लिए वीडियो और ऑडियो फ़ाइलों का संग्रह है। योग सभी उम्र के लोगों के लिए शारीरिक और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य लाभ प्रदान करता है। जब हम योग आसनों (मुद्राओं) का अभ्यास करते हैं तो हमें केवल शरीर को फैलाना नहीं चाहिए। मन को शरीर के साथ होना चाहिए। योग अभ्यास शरीर, श्वास और मन को जोड़ता है।

Yoga has become increasingly popular around the world due to its many health benefits. Here are some of the benefits of yoga-

  • Yoga postures (asanas) help to stretch and strengthen the muscles and increase flexibility, endurance, and balance. This can improve overall physical fitness. This can also help to reduce body pains, such as lower back pain.
  • Yoga involves breathing techniques and meditation, which can help to calm the mind and reduce stress and anxiety. It relaxes the mind, improves the quality of sleep, and increases concentration.
  • Yoga has been shown to boost the immune system. It can improve heart health by lowering blood pressure and improving circulation.
  • Yoga can aid in weight loss by burning calories and maintaining health.
