  1. I have seen a telescope in a space observatory. It is used to observe the heavenly bodies in the sky, like planets, moon, and stars.
  2. A hammer is used by a carpenter to drive nails. It can also be seen in the tool box in our house.
  3. A camera is used by a photographer for taking photographs. It is also found in homes for people to take photos.
  4. A screwdriver is used by a mechanic for tightening screws. They are also kept in homes.
  5. I have seen a sickle used in gardens and farms. It can be used to cut the grass. It is also used in harvesting of crops in fields.

What’s missing?
The child sees only the fun part of each job. What do you think might be the difficult or boring part of being a hawker, a gardener or a watchman? Write a paragraph to express your thoughts.
Answer:
If you are a hawker, then you have to work very hard. You must be ready to spend long days out in the sun and rain. You may also get only a small income. You may have to lead a very ordinary lifestyle. This applies to the life of a gardener and a watchman, too. These people also have to put in a lot of physical work. The watchman has to stay awake all night to guard his area. This may cause him health problems. So, doing these jobs is not easy.

Question 2.
In the poem, the speaker tells us about the vocations of different people. Write the vocations of any three of your family members, in 50-60 words each, from the list below.

Answer:
The vocation of my mother: My mother is a teacher. Teaching is a noble profession. It is important for all the citizens to get an education. Education helps a nation to progress in every field. My mother teaches in a nearby school. It is a very reputed school. There are hundreds of students in her school. Her students like her very much. She is very popular among her students. She takes classes for tenth class students. The students she has taught have attained good positions in life. They still remember her with gratitude.

The vocation of my father: My father works as a manager in a hospital. It is a government hospital. He is concerned with the administration of the hospital. Since it is a government hospital, it is free of cost. There is always a heavy rush of patients in the hospital. So, the patients have to be managed well. My father plays an important role in running the hospital. Proper conditions have to be made so that the doctors and nurses can do their work properly. The medical profession is also a noble profession. It is a profession devoted to the service of mankind.

Answer:
Among the vocations given above, I would like to become a teacher. Teaching is a noble profession. Being a teacher helps to serve the student community. Students are the future of the nation. Only if students study well they can perform well in their life. So, the role of a teacher in the development of a country becomes very important. As a teacher, I would be able to serve my country with distinction.

B. Is there any other vocation not shown in the pictures that you would like to take up as your dream job? Support your answer with a reason.
Answer:
Other than the jobs shown in the above pictures, I would like to become a doctor. We cannot imagine life without a doctor. Good health is important for the people of any society. Doctors play an important role in helping people to maintain good health.
